
“Let us Prepare Today for Our Tomorrows”
A short synopses of how “The Garvey Village Social Enterprise ” Initiative was created, it came about because The Auntie Jean’s Afrikan Culture Market (ACM) which currently operates in two community centre’s, One, the 3rd Sunday of each month in Brixton and Two, the 2nd Sunday every other month in Tottenham. The ACM, identified the need to support small businesses that provide African and Caribbean products. The ACM is also a platform for people of African Descent to gain and exchange information which highlights, Awareness of local Community Groups, Businesses and Social entertainment, via the Presentations from the Invited Guest Speakers as well as Local Businesses, Services and Local Talent. This highlighted a need for follow up advice work-shops.
As a result a new initiative by the ACM and a collective of Well-Respected members of the Community who have come together and “The Garvey Village” was created to be a Hub, to for-fill the demand for more information on advise on community issues of health, cultural and social identity, and business building skills, our aim is to foster small business growth, create wealth generation, create out-reach projects that enrol our youth in constructive, community based activities, combat isolation, and improve personal mental and physical well-being.
What will the Garvey Village do?
The Garvey Village initiative is as a means to have a permanent hub of creativity whereby it will enhance and sustain the work begun by the ACM.
The Garvey Village aims to provide services and resources to enhance all aspect of the lives of African/Caribbean people. Vital areas such as, personal development, health, education, employment and training; as well as social and cultural activities, enterprise, social enterprise, and workshops will provide the foundation. Another fundamentally important aspect of The Garvey Village will be our work with our youths. The Garvey Village intends to provide seminars, workshops, training and development, and opportunities for young people to have a focus on areas of growth and development that will connect and engage their minds, focus and attention.
The Garvey Village will be a Community Centre with a Difference; it will provide cost effective meeting spaces with information and support for people starting their own businesses or community groups, it will provide space for people to access quality workshops and seminars, it will have an IT Suite, for job clubs and educational/training opportunities, an Internet Cafe, a cultural library, training, complementary health therapies, and healthy eating options provided by a Vegan outlets, there will be opportunities for Book launches, Arts & Crafts Exhibitions/Displays to celebrate our rich history and future aspirations, as well as social activities.
What have we done so far?
We have identified a property to house The Garvey Village and we have been raising funds to make The Garvey Village a reality, And while support has been forthcoming by the community, The Garvey Village members are now asking Businesses, who want to support a worthwhile initiative become a reality.

In return, we will highlight your Business as a supporter of The Garvey Village (if Agreed) via promoting your company name, if you so wish ,you’ll have opportunities to use the ACM’s ShowCase Platform to make presentations of your Business and Services, and if so wish, you can make some use of space at the centre, ie to provide workshops for your clients etc
